怡安 once shared this novel with me. She found elephant an animal with affections after reading this story. On New Year Eve, I was absorbed in the words of this novel at the Eslite bookstore and went to 2016 unexpectedly.

Surprising, poignant, and funny, Water for Elephant is so engrossing, that one is reluctant to put it down. It let me know more details about the world of the circus: a world filled with freaks and clowns, with wonder and pain and anger and passion; a world with its own narrow, irrational rules, its own way of life, and its own way of death. Many amazing things showed on advertisements are fake.

Besides, the life of Jacob, who was tossed by fate, impressed me. He had been a Cornell University veterinary student. However, his luck suddenly ran out--orphaned and penniless, so he had no direction until he landed on a circus train. Instead of complaining or giving up, he did a good job in the circus. I like to control my life precisely, but I have nothing to do with fate. Maybe I have to accept the instability of  life, and learn to make responsible decisions. I hope when I look back the track of my life someday, I would not regret but smile in satisfaction.
